| Simply having, a wonderful Xmas time... |
|
Its almost Xmas, so here is a quick status update:-
Presents
Prepared
Everything is wrapped (apart from the table gifts for Xmas day). Excluding the couple that should be turning up this week.
Food
Unprepared
So far, I haven't bought a thing! I should hopefully be going straight from work this evening and getting everything I need for Xmas lunch - chicken and ham, veg, puddings, etc, etc. No turkey this year as it always turns out too dry. Still need cranberry sauce though. I think I need to draw up a shopping list :)
Locations
Mostly Prepared
Xmas Eve - kids will be arriving at 6pm and sleeping over
Xmas Day - opening presents with Shell and kids. Start cooking. Collect Shells friend Terry. Eat Xmas lunch. Drop Terry home, drop kids to their Nans. Go to Shells mums for Xmas dinner. Drink - lots. Sleep.
Boxing Day - no idea what I am doing yet...
Parties
Completed
Went to my works Xmas party last Wednesday. It wasn't very good - the food was disappointing and I had to deal with a drunk guy from the office all night! Apart from that, it was alright.
Thats enough for now - I will post later in the week and certainly around Xmas, with details of mine and Shells presents. But before I go - a little Xmas song for you all to enjoy.

My Nan had another heart attack on Sunday morning at 8am. I went to see her in hospital yesterday afternoon (after a particularly cold car-booting morning) and she was in good spirits. She looks a little frailer now though - 5 heart attacks in less than a year can do that I suppose!
We spent about an hour laughing about my Bampi (my fathers father who dies when I was about 7), kids, food and all sorts.
My Bampi is my all-time favourite person in the whole world ever. If there was ever a reason for inventing time travel - going back and chatting to him would be my driving force. That, and preventing the massive coronary that took him away from us.
He is one of a handful of people that I think about every day without anything prompting it :(
On another note, I found a picture of me - here courtesy of my mate Mark.
Look at all that hair! Look. Loads of it. In 2001!
What the crap happened?
I think I shall go somewhere and shed a tear for "the lost ones..."

| My poor feet... |
|
On Friday, Shell and I drive up to the NEC in Birmingham, with her grandparents to attend the Warley National Railway Exhibition.
From 9am to 6pm (Sat) and 9am to 5pm (Sun) I was stood on my feet, selling railway modelling equipment. I now have a working knowledge of solder, fluxes, chairs, rail guages, etc, etc
For example, if you are soldering to brass, you will need a yellow flux, although a red/green would be fine (especially if we had sold out of Yellow!)
We stayed at the very cold "Express by Holiday Inn" at the NEC. The bedrooms were freezing (and the heater kept turning itself off) and the wireless net access was 15 a day....
so we stayed offline :)
Tomorrow is Chandlers birthday and I've got him the following (click them for pictures):
Thomas The Tank Engine Series 1 DVD Box Set
The Gruffalos Child
Aquadraw Deluxe
Remote Control Hummer
There will be a celebratory image and stuff tomorrow to mark the occasion, although I wont be seeing him until Friday.
Last Friday was also the 2nd year anniversary of Shell and I being together. Our first date was at 8.30pm on the 2nd December 2003. 2 years - 2 whole years.
Happy Anniversary babes!

So there we go. Fortunately, I placed money on myself, so I'm a bigtime winner. Jon - you owe me :)
A couple of snippets from around the Intranerd...
Why are women like buses...
- Because they are never on time, are very top-heavy, and inclined to fall over in strong winds.
- When you try to get anywhere with them, and you end up going around in circles.
- 1 doesn't get you very far.
- They are in constant need of maintenance and only show up when its convenient for them.
- Most of them you enter through the front, although the ones where you get in the rear are the most popular.
- Despite men trying to drive them they have a mind of their own, and they break down if you do.
- They are unpredictable, often making you pull out unexpectedly, which can cause frustration.
- Big ones aren't so pleasing to the eye but offer a much more comfortable ride.
- The one that everyone else is on is better than yours.
- Despite all this, people still like to get inside them twice a day and ride them, either sitting or standing up..

Thats enough for today. You will be pleased to know that I fixed my mates computer (that I had built) that was randomly rebooting. The fan on the HSF had caught burned out and died - consequently, the Athlon XP 1500+ had turned into molten lava. Not the best thing to happen!
A new NForce3 mobo and a Sempron 2400 (with AMD supplied HSF) sorted the situation. Recovered the XP installation and problem sorted. I rock (but slowly)!
The mobo still works, so I now have a Duron 1800 to make an upgraded machine for Shell from her current PII machine. Huzzah!
I also managed to fuck up my Amiga A4000T. It was reporting errors on the system partition, so I attempted my usual process - format the partition.
The great thing abotu AmigaOS/Workbench, is that you can format the system partition while the system is running. You backup the drive, format it and restore the backup and the machine wont bat an eyelid. Tell me another OS you can do that on?
Unfortunately, I moved/dragged an error requestor during the format and it guru'd. And my floppy drive had died so I couldnt get it working again, until my great mate Andy (Motorman) lent me his A4000T fdd so I could bring it to life.
Moral of this story - REPLACE THE BLOODY HARD DISK THAT IS OBVIOUSLY FAILING.
Oh, and GET A WORKING FLOPPY DRIVE - I have now ordered 2 from Germany, 1 for the machine and 1 to be put into safe storage somewhere.
Anyway, my mate Andy/Motorman (mentioned above) has some pictures of the A4000T on his website. Check them out - here, here and here.

| Tired |
|
I am tired. So very very tired...
I have been working on installing a new datacentre for one of our customers and this weekend is the live date - when we move loads of kit (super computers, etc, etc) into it. We were told not to come into work on the Friday, as we would be starting work on the Friday evening. Unfortnately, this didnt stop me from waking up at my normal time and then dropping Shell to work. I spent the day lazing around at home and went to work at 6.15pm.
And worked through the night until I got home at 6.45am!
I managed to get 3 hours sleep before I was up at 9.45am and after sorting a couple of things out - headed back to the datacentre. I got home again at 5.15pm and managed to catch a couple of hours sleep (thanks to Shell forcing me to) before heading back out again at 10.15pm.
It is now just after 6.30 on the Sunday morning and I'm not expecting to leave here til about 8ish, when I will be rescued by a colleague taking over. I'll be heading home then and will be on-call - waiting to get called in to sort anything out that needs sorting out!
This should go on until Monday and then Tuesday should be a normal working day.
However, the work is pretty interesting and I will be getting paid quite handsomely for it, so thats keeping me going. That, and knowing I can crawl into bed with Shell (who will be toasty warm) when I get back home...
