Bargain!

I just bought one of these:

A ONE FOR ALL URC-8206 Kameleon. It took several minutes to get it sorted and it now controls the following:

Reoc 28" Widescreen TV
Nokia Freeview Box
Yamada DVX-8700 DVD Player
Matsui VCR
Eltax AVR280 5.1 Receiver

Thats 5 whole remotes down to one. And its got a sexy blue EL display.

And the best thing about it is the price. Looking on Froogle sees it going for more than 50. I paid.....10. Wish I'd bought another couple really - could have made a fortune!

The Samson Syndrome

As I was saying before, Shell has been ill. I have put this down to what I like to term The Sansom Syndrome. I will illustrate it with pictures:

That was how Shell had her hair (and once had it braided while in Spain).

Then this happened:

Then she got ill. See? The The Samson Syndrome. Thats copyrighted by me (or maybe the Bible - I don't know)!

Mind you, she looks bloody horny in that last photo!

There has been another change since that photo was taken, but I don't have any pictures to show. I will take one and put it up soon.

So what is it with Amazon?

I've have used Amazon (both .co.uk and .com) for several years and have always found them to provide excellent service. But recently?

Some time ago, they introduced free shipping if you spent 19, which they have recently lowered to 15. The drawback of this, is that to qualify for the free delivery, you have to select their "Super Saver Delivery" option. This is essentially an option to have the items delivered to you later rather than sooner.

Anyway - I placed an order with them on the 1st of this month (using SSD) and got a despatch email yesterday afternoon! I placed another order yesterday (the 2nd) and got a despatch email this morning!

Now thats what I call service!

I also have a couple of links for you today:

First up - possibly the strangest game you will play this week. The titles are in English but the instructions are in Japanese. Clicking on things helps! I currently have a record of 3190.8m.

Secondly (and lastly, cos I said "a couple") - a hilarious video.

Shell has been ill since the weekend with flu like symptoms and has spent 3 days in bed, which is very unlike her (being ill that is, not being in bed).

I blame this downturn in her medical situation on what I like to call the "Samson Syndrome". I will provide more detail tomorrow :)

In which Tudor reveals his imaginary friend and a drunken wee story...

For the past few days, I have been reading "Join Me" by Danny Wallace. A truly excellent read - its had me laughing out loud (my to Shells annoyance) - and has made me realise that I am very similar. I think the same, make the same comments as he does and therefore I am proud to announce that I am not mad.

"Wacky ideas and comments does not a madman make." Tudor Davies, 2005

Glad we got that cleared up (me not being mad), as it leaves me open to mention the rest of what I wanted to say:-

Apparently, Rupert the Bear has been sold and will be re-appearing on TV in a new computer animated guise. And I hate him. With a passion.

My reason for hating Rupert runs quite deep. It started when I was a kid. I was a strange lad and I had an imaginary friend who lived under the gas fire in the back room of the house (technically a dining room). His name was Saggity and he was made of twigs. Essentially he was the Rupert character "Raggerty", but different!

"So what?" you may be wondering. Well - Rupert killed my imaginary friend. We were in Street, shopping. Rupert stepped out from behind the front window of shop (you know, where the door is recessed) and threw a dart at Saggity, killing him instantly. I have been traumatised about that for many many years. Most of my closest friends and all my family know about the situation with Rupert, but I thought it was about time I shared it with the rest of you... as long as you dont take the piss out of me.

Which leads me nicely onto urination. If one can be lead "nicely" onto urination, of course.

Shell called me earlier from work and said that she desperately needed a wee, but it was too cold to leave the office and walk to the other building to use the loo. I advised her to grab a bottle and a funnel (both items I know are in the office she works in) and hey presto!

Anyway. Once, several years ago, I awoke in my bed and was busting for a wee. However, I was too drunk to make it to the toilet, so managed to convince my body that it could easily wait for a few more hours and went back to sleep. So back to sleep I went until I woke up a few hours later with chronic bladder pains. I was now in a situation that I had to move to the toilet, but moving would mean that urination would occur instantly - I'm sure you have all been in this situation. BUT I had a house guest at the time and he was currently occupying the bathroom!

Fortunately, I had an empty bottle of coke beside my bed - a 1.5lt Coke bottle - so in a moment of panic (expecting a surge any second all over the place) I grabbed the bottle, lined myself up as best as I could and let rip.

Ah - the relief. Thanks to a steady hand, I was managing to keep 100% of my stream directed into the bottle, so was managing quite nicely thankyou very much. Unfortunately, the bottle was filling up at a rate of knots and it started to look like I was going to need a 2ltr bottle. Which was .5ltr more than the bottle could contain!

So I managed to perform the difficult and painful task of pausing mid stream and holding it until the bathroom became free. Which I managed. With only a small amount of spillage. It was at this moment that I decided that I could really use have a funnel in the house, in case such a situation arose again.

It hasn't. And nor have I ever bought myself a funnel! What does that say about me?

Kids these days...

are influenced too much by TV.

For example - while driving the kids home today, I got irate at a driver in front of me for being, well, an arse.

At which point, both of the kids piped up with "Calm down dear, it's only a commercial".

More soon (but probably more boring computery stuff and similar drivel)

PCs

I have several computers in the house.

There were:

  • P4 2.0 - Main PC (mine)
  • PII 300 PC (Shell)
  • PPC/060 A4000T (mine)
  • Celeron 333 - Smoothwall router
  • P3 733 SME Server - Mail/web, etc
  • Dual P3-750 Server - MP3/Video store

I have been having problems with my dually box. It randomly freezes, etc and wont install hotfixes! So I have replaced with a P200MMX with 64mb of RAM.

I downloaded and am now running NAS Lite +. I stuck some large hard disks into it. It boots up from CD and it works. Its also stable and works on very low spec gear. I might upgrade the memory on it to 128Mb from 64mb though - as that should improve caching.

And its fast! Damn fast!

I may put my little 486DX/4-100 into use and add disks into that as well...

There is a free version of the software called NAS Lite which runs completely off of a floppy.

Took me back to the days when I used to run FreeSCO as my router/firewall.

This means that I now have a Dual P3-750 machine with 512Mb sat around doing nothing. I don't want to run Windows on it - so I may just sell it as a going concern without the hard disks/DVDs in it. In a nice midi tower case with space for 6 HDDs...

This is getting scary...

Seems like my link jinx (ooh - that rhymes!) is finally over. I just keep finding them now. Or is that I am looking for them more - I dunno.

Anyway - here is todays selection.

Its a well known fact that people have more rights on the road than cars - but make sure you dont mess with old people...

A fact not often raised by the road safety people is that speeding can save lives!

Especially for Shell - a link to discover your Squirrel Name. Thats right - and you know I'm really Private Honeynuts!!!

There are times in your life when we need to know important things. How to tie your shoelaces. How to survive in quicksand. How to survive an earthquake. How to make the Office Bow of Death.

The world has gone mad. Just when you though the Crazy Frog was gone, Amazon start selling this:

Crazy Frog Plush Toy
Sans willy of course

Buy it for family, buy it for friends. Or buy it so that someone else cant, then set fire to it, video the punishing and publish it on the net. Go on - be creative!

Finally, some games to play.

Ever fancied starting your own little grow cube and seeing life advance? Then do so here. Theres a couple of little oddities there to play with.

The most addictive game of the day - Grid Game - how long can your chain reaction go? I've managed 736 at the time of writing. EDIT - Make that 1828

Wednesday, 5th October 2005

It's about time I posted a load of links, so here are several.

First up, an annoyingly addictive new game to play. Throw paper in the bin

Argos in Mutilation Porn Shock!

A website detailing who and why people are C*nts. Visit C*nt Corner

Ever wondered what do do with a dead badger? How about Installing Linux on it

This is cool. I just wish I had enough Lego people/parts to do this with. Design Your Own Lego Person

What song was No1 on the day you were born?

All of the above have been shamelessly stolen from Link Bunnies

I also took a quiz - How Dodgy Are You?.

My results:
Scoundrel
More than a bit naughty - you're heading for a spot of bother at this rate - that is if you're not already inside. You don't have to be perfect, but if no one says you're a bad person, they're wrong. You are.

Based on your answers, we have calculated the maximum penalty for your crimes:

Years in prison: 131 Potential fine: 7000

Erm. Erm. And thrice Erm...

Drinking

its not big, its not clever but it can be so much fun :D

Friday night saw loads of people from work out to celebrate Jason and Paul escaping and starting off somewhere new (with a nice fat redundancy payout to aid them). We started off at the Knights Templar (by Bristol Temple Meads and then moved to Lloyds Bar on the waterfront, where we stayed til closing time. An ace time was had by all.

Fortunately, no-one got got as drunk as this!.

Saturday saw me getting back to Shells mums house and falling asleep in Shells bed as everyone was out, after spending the morning trying to recover at my mate Andys house. His 8yr old kept me entertained with her tales of weddings, music likes and dislikes and general chit chat (mostly about dolls and doll clothing). Saturday evening saw me losing all the money I had borrowed (and more) at cards. I borrowed 2.50 and by the end of the night, I owed a the original 2.50 I had borrowed plus a further 3.50 to the other players that I had borrowed to continue playing. What a nightmare!

We went out once on Sunday to go to Asda and buy some lunch. The rest of the day was spent chilling on the settee watching the box. Thats how Sundays are meant to be spent.

On a slightly different note - are you a fan of "The Shining"? If so, check out this alternate trailer. Enjoy!
