Hey Mr DJ, put a record on

So Friday evening sees me spinning the gold and silver platters again at my local friendly neighbourhood gay venue.

So for all the my readers out there - I'd like you to suggest some tracks for my next playlist. Tell me the tunes that have made you strut your funky stuff, the tracks that have got you grinding your genitals with a random dance partner and the ditties that have make you tap your feet and dance like your dad!

Last monday, my DJ partner kept the dance floor packed all night, so I need to prove my worth this weekend with a playlist that will make people need hip replacements...

The best tracks I shall mix up and post somewhere for you to listen to. I might even record the whole set and put it up for people to enjoy/criticise!

A response...

to the comment in the last post left by mate Andy.

I said "more news as it happens". Nothing has happened, so there is nothing to report.

I am currently trapped in a vacuum, with only a keyboard and screen, with no food, drink or human contact.

That may or may not be true...

Links...

I, today, came across (fnarr!) possibly the greatest web page ever...

Woody's World of Penis Euphemisms! - I will be noting some down in order to drop into conversation over the weekend

In other news, Damn Small Linux 4.0 has just been released. Useful if you have some old machines and just need basic stuff on and its pretty bomb proof.

And finally, I have been laughing a lot at this site - I can has cheez burger - I think I've even submitted one!

Anyway, DJ'ing this evening (might be doing it by myself as some heavy shit is going down at the moment with my DJ partner), so that should be fun. Plus - I aiming to get laid.

More news as it happens. Well, not as it happens, but after it has happensed as typing it in here while its happening could be distracting for all parties.

So lets imagine that you are some guy. You've been married, you have some kids, you have little money and someone offers you a way of making some easy money.

It's doing something pretty much against your morals and to start with it won't pay very well until you get a small number of interested parties who are willing to keep coming back and taking a little piece of you each time.

What do you do? How do you keep the people coming back? Do you whore yourself out to keep the interest there? Do you lie to make them come back?

What if what you have on offer isnt something that gets people addicted? What if its something that can make them laugh, or cry, and forget themselves for a bit? Get them involved in something that gets them away from their everyday life and give them something interesting...

So the question is this... Should I start putting adverts on the page in the hope the few people keep coming back and slowly give me money, should I signup to a paid-blogging system or should I start selling drugs?

Something I was interested in doing with this here blog was to turn it professional. Make it into a film review site - a proper one with contributors (some of which are already lined up and stuff. Highlighting the movies that really are Bloody Excellent...

Anyway, on another note - I'm in a pretty good place at the moment. Just enough money to survive and enjoy myself, 2 great kids, a huge MP3 collection to listen to, a brilliant group of friends, one incredibly ace new friend, given up smoking, tempted to dump my car and be more ecologically friendly and eating healthier. I actually feel pretty happy. I mean, things could always be better, but right now, its all good.

In other news I drink too much (but I'm not doing it to forget stuff and let my "inner child" out anymore), I'm drinking cos its fun and its kind of a social thing. My "inner child" gets released whenever I damn well want it to be now, which is cool.

On the down side, its almost November. Novembers are historically a bad time for me and I expect all my current (minimal) euphoria will vanish into a puff of smoke and I'll spiral downwards in the stupid way I normally do. Nothing good ever lasts, everything turns to shit eventually...

Need sleep...

So, that was quite a heavy weekend. Friday saw me taking Jackie and Sue home by taxi (before going home myself) around 3ish.

Spent all day in bed on Saturday catching up with all the American TV shows from the week. Saturday night saw me, Tim, Kim and Katie start off at The Back Bar watching a band called Stillyano. And they pretty much kicked ass. Definately gonna see them again.

After that, it was pretty much a drink-a-thon. Cocktails at Bar4, couple of drinks at CKs (where Michelle was working her arse off) and then we split up and I headed to The Alex. Collected Michelle at 12.30 and took her to the Alex where we proceeded to drink copious amounts and finally staggered back to hers around 4am.

Unfortunately, she passed out on her bed and puked, so, being the gallant gentleman that I am, I picked her up and took her to the bathroom and left her with her head in the sink and a glass of water, while I went back and stripped the bed and stuck it in the washing machine. Then undressed her and put her to bed, watched her for a couple of hours to make sure she didn't puke again, then got some kip.

Spent Sunday at Michelles watching telly, brief visit into town for food (we tried an Angry Whopper from BK - spicy and very tasty), rubbish from poundland and a new top, took the dogs for a walk, then back to the pub and was home by 10pm, a full 25.5 hours after I left home...

Monday - PC fixed (dodgy Logitech mouse driver issue)
Tuesday - cooked food, ate food, drank beer and wine, got giggly, watched films
Wednesday - need sleep

So here is my recipe for:

Salsa Chicken with Roasted Vegetables on a Bed of Sweetcorn Rice

Serves: 2

Roasted Vegetables
3 large new potatoes
2 large carrots
2 leeks
1/2 onion
olive oil
salt, pepper

Prep: 10 mins
Cooking: 1hr

Clean, and peel all the veg. Cut potatoes, carrots and leeks into 1" angled chunks. Cut onion into several wedges. Place in a backing pan with a drizzle of olive oil, seasoned with salt and pepper. Place in a pre-heated over at 150 for an hour. Toss occasionally and add olive oil if required.

Salsa Chicken
2 lg chicken breasts
1 small jar mild "Old El Paso" Chunky Salsa
1/2 can chopped tomatoes
olive oil
salt, pepper
garlic granules

Prep: 5mins
Cooking: 40mins

Take the chicken breasts, smother with olive oil and season with salt, pepper and garlic granules. Place in a baking dish and cover with tin foil (shiny side in). Cook for 30 mins at 150. Combine jar of salsa with 1/2 can of tomatoes. Remove chicken from oven and ensure cooked through. Drain dish of juices and smother with salsa sauce. Return to oven for a further 10 mins.

Sweetcorn Rice
150g long grain rice
225ml cold water
50g sweetcorn

Prep: 5 mins
Cooking: 25 mins

Wash rice in a saucepan until water runs clear, then drain thoroughly. Add sweetcorn to rice. Add water and bring to the boil (covered). Once boiling, lower heat to minimum and simmer (covered) for 10mins. Remove from heat and leave (covered) for a further 10 mins. Fluff up with fork and serve immediately.

Place the rice on a heated plate. Add the roasted veg and chicken. Spoon the remaining salsa sauce over the chicken breasts. Consume along with a bottle of Pinot Grigot.

If you don't enjoy it, my names not Martin Thrimbledill!

More plans...

Yeah, so like last week didn't go entirely to plan. Thursday was fun (having a backie on a bike going 30mph down a hill, with no real stopping power), Friday didn't happen, Saturday did and Sunday was spent recovering.

This week, I am once again, all planned out.
Monday - fix Sue's PC
Tuesday - Michelle for dinner and films
Wednesday - out with work (though may skip this 'cos my TL has pissed me off by blaming me for something that had nothing to do with me)
Thursday - Steve's for dinner/setup his network
Friday/Sat/Sunday - The Kids!

After last weekend, which included such hilarious moments such as "What do you mean - the deaf people are starting to shout?", "God damn! Thats 2 nights on the trot I've had a wet crotch!" and "How the hell did I get home?", followed the next night by "Hello darling! Why are you in the toilet cubicle with me? Oh. I see!", "Her boyfriend? I didn't...[swoosh][dodging sound][clunk of bottle]" and "Yes, yes, I'll just leave quietly.", I'm looking forward to the rest afforded to me by my kids. Although, Rhiannon does need to get some tidying done in her room, cos it looks like the centre of Baghdad at the moment.

Ho-hum!

The plan for this week:

Monday - nothing
Tuesday - fix Sue's PC
Wednesday - sort out Lee's wireless network and get fed
Thursday - evening with Michelle
Friday - out in Bristol for Nikki's b/day
Saturday - install some disco lights in the pub
Saturday evening - out with the 5-a-side team
Sunday - recover

So Tuesday didn't go to plan, as Sue has lost her PC keyboard, which makes finding out whats wrong with it a little tricky (I didn't know this until I met her at 6ish in the pub).

Last night was called off, as Lee and his family have buggered off to Florida at the last moment!

Lets hope everything else stays on track, as sitting in the pub and downing pint after pint for no reason apart from wanting to spend time with people I know, day-after-day, is getting to me. Well, not at really, but I need to pretend to be concerned about it :)
