| Damn, I wish I'd thought of that... |
|
I've have always been a believer in innovation. Coming up with those little ideas which you are sure would make someones life better (and make a fucking fortune to boot).
I've come up with a few in my time, some of them workable and some have then actually been made (not by me I hasten to add). But today, I came across this:
Fantastic eh. Quite frankly, it looks pretty uncomfortable. I shall purchase one for Shell - purely for testing reasons and then I shall provide a review (from Shell's perspective). I'm good like that.
Shell called from Spain yesterday morning. It was hot. Very hot. 33 degrees and it looks like its staying that way. Damn her for having nice weather while Bristol is currently going through a tropical rain season (without the heat).
Anyway - for anyone that has Google Earth installed - download this to see where her hotel is! God, I'm geeky!

| Sadness... |
|
It is with much sadness that I have to tell you all that Shell and I are not together.
Things had been planned, plans have been changed and people do their own thing, often leaving someone else behind and sorrow in their wake.
I'll miss her. She is such a fun person, very loving (although, as a woman, she has some faults!) and strong. She has done me a world of good and I love her as much now as I ever did...
So when she comes back from her holiday in Spain next Wednesday, I'll be well happy!

OK then. A quick review covering all the pertinent points (caution - contains spoilers):
Dumbledore gets killed. Snape did it.

| Here we go again... |
|
So. Today HP announced jobs cuts of 14,500 across their workforce.
And guess who I work for?
Oh yeah. Yippee-fucking-doo!
(Mind you - I could do quite well out of it if I'm chosen)

| Drinking for Charity |
|
Some links for you today, just so that no-one thinks I've died or anything...
Greatest eBay auction ever
Clean your screen? Cute and excellent :)
Transformers video. Awesome. Great video and ace music. Enjoy! (and also proves that students have far too much time on their hands)
Tonight, sees me and several others participating in the annual Lloyds TSB Charity Pub Crawl 2005. Last year we went as an ambulance crew and this year we are going as "The Highland Tossers" - dressed in kilts, etc. Generally over 20000 is raised on the night - getting drunk for a worthwhile cause...
I will post pictures later :)

| Bombs are bad, m'kay |
|
Not nice. Hearing the events in London unfolding on Thursday on Radio 5 Live! and various websites, I cannot believe the horror that people were (and still are going through).
Myril (my mate Kevs wife) - was in the Kings Cross "situation" and walked away unscathed - physically. You can read what she said about it here. Scary stuff indeed.
In other news - other things has happened but I'm not writing about them. Nice, eh!

| Quiet isnt it? |
|
Nothing to see here. Please move along :)
I'm currently trying a redesign (new colors, layout, etc) so I may not update for a while and then come back in a blaze of glorious sound and vision, like the Milleniun celebrations.
Or I might just come back silently with an orange color scheme and leave it at that...

| Doh! |
|
Last weekend went pretty well with the kids. Some nice weather and we went to the park and things. It was good.
Speaking of weather - I dont like it. It makes me ill. One - I have stomach/bowel issues at it is and the heat just makes that worse. Two - I suffer badly from hay fever.
I went home early last Wednesday and was ill Thursday and Friday (although I still managed to work from home on both days).
Saturday evening - Shell and I went to see Batman Begins. Top film, although we spotted some inconsistencies with the first Batman film (as this is a prequel), but some of these have now been sorted out by Ian who knows far more about the whole Batman-verse.
Sunday, we were back to the car boot at Cheddar, which entailed me getting up at 5am. I walked downstairs and it was so light - it was like it was 10am or something. I opened the back doors to let the cats out and the heat hit me - at 5am for gods sake. I mean, I know its been hot recently but quite frankly thats taking the piss!
It's been hot today as well and I'm not happy about it. We could do with a good thunder storm really. Maybe I should do a rain dance or something...
On another note - something to keep your minds occupied - Rachel Stevens & Plums. Enjoy!

| Dangerous Games |
|
Sounds like the title of a cool film doesnt it? Maybe I'll write it someday...
Anyway - check out this news story. Chilling isnt it.
I have always been on the side of computer games when the media have said "Computer games make you violent". I've always maintained that gaming improves responses and releases tension and in no way promotes violence in a physical form. Normally they cite games such as "Grand Theft Auto" and "Manhunter", etc - but these games fit into my explanation perfectly. They allow people to release their stresses on pixels not people.
RPG gaming is different. It can take people over. It costs people money. People pay for better characters, better equipment, better houses, etc. It generates a large amount of income for dedicated people who arent out to succeed in the game. But people still see it as a game - yes, even those people that turn up at the shows dressed up as their favourite characters.
And for 99.9999% of the population of the planet thats fine. Unfortunately, 0.0001% of the population are fucktards.
So when something like this happens, its not the fault of the people that wrote the software, its not that gaming drives people to violence - its those fucktards who cant draw the line that cause the problem.
So my motto for the year will be this:
Kill pixels not people!
Kinda catchy don't you think?
Anyhow, on a lighter note, please check out the website of Tim Harries. Damn good and bloody funny. He also has a great cartoon strip based on eBay experiences from The DVD Forums. Check it out here. It's locally hosted to save his bandwidth.
Ciao!

| Thoughts for the day and plumbing brilliance! |
|
2 comments for today. One from IRC and one I saw on the back of a van while driving into work:-
Love alot, trust a few, but always paddle your own canoe!!
Somewhere in the world, it is always lunchtime
The first one is quite meaningful, the second - useful when you are feeling hungry :)
On Saturday evening, Shell and I went to collect one of her friends. When we pulled up outside, she beckoned us in and asked for help, as her upstairs bathroom was leaking into her kitchen! Essentially, the cold water feed into the cistern was split as it entered the cistern and was dripping water. They had already turned off the water at the stop-cock, but this hadnt stopped it.
When I checked under the sink, I noticed that the feed upstairs for the cistern and the kitchen were to the left of the stop-cock, so turning it off didnt affect them! Whoever installed that plumbing solution needs smacking with a piece of 2"x4".
Anyway, I came up with a solution. I asked them for a piece of tube and a coke bottle. I sliced the top off of a section of the bottle and connected to the vacuum extension tube. The water dripped into the bottle, ran down the pipe and into the toilet! A plumbing solution made in heaven. Or a "brilliant bodge" as others called it.
I think therefore I have found a second calling. Not plumbing, but "Heath Robinson" style solutioning...
