Dangerous Games

Sounds like the title of a cool film doesnt it? Maybe I'll write it someday...

Anyway - check out this news story. Chilling isnt it.

I have always been on the side of computer games when the media have said "Computer games make you violent". I've always maintained that gaming improves responses and releases tension and in no way promotes violence in a physical form. Normally they cite games such as "Grand Theft Auto" and "Manhunter", etc - but these games fit into my explanation perfectly. They allow people to release their stresses on pixels not people.

RPG gaming is different. It can take people over. It costs people money. People pay for better characters, better equipment, better houses, etc. It generates a large amount of income for dedicated people who arent out to succeed in the game. But people still see it as a game - yes, even those people that turn up at the shows dressed up as their favourite characters.

And for 99.9999% of the population of the planet thats fine. Unfortunately, 0.0001% of the population are fucktards.

So when something like this happens, its not the fault of the people that wrote the software, its not that gaming drives people to violence - its those fucktards who cant draw the line that cause the problem.

So my motto for the year will be this:

Kill pixels not people!

Kinda catchy don't you think?

Anyhow, on a lighter note, please check out the website of Tim Harries. Damn good and bloody funny. He also has a great cartoon strip based on eBay experiences from The DVD Forums. Check it out here. It's locally hosted to save his bandwidth.

Ciao!
