Following a comment by Spud about getting a replacement phone, I though I would list all the phone I have ever had. So here goes:
How sad!

| Next week |
|
Next week I am in London on a training course. Today I booked my train tickets and accomodation. The hotel lists as one of its amenities - "High speed Internet access".
Now, I am presuming this means to every room - but I have a few questions. Is it wired or wireless? Is it free or chargable? Nowhere, on their website or related sites, does it mention anything about it - which is odd, considering:
1/ they are using it as a selling point for their rooms and
2/ I am using the Internet looking for details about the Internet they provide, making it an ideal piece of information to be made available.
So, has anyone stayed in a Holiday Inn Express in the UK recently and can answer the question?
Failing that - I'll just call them and ask :)
Also - as I will be in the Smoke next week, I will be available for drinky-poos from Monday evening thru Thursday evening. I can hear the phone ringing now as you all rush to invite me out...

| Computer News |
|
Well, well.
My suggestion of a technology blog seems to have sparked a little interest. More than one person has expressed an interest - although Jons idea of news items from Your Computer got me thinking.
Maybe a Retro Section - whereby news items from 20+years ago get made available.
I used to have a complete collection of New Computer Express and a massive amount of Your Computer. But they have all gone - although I did find someone on eBay selling shit loads of them.
We could provide listings for people to cut & paste (much easier than typing them in) and even introduce bugs so that the programs dont run properly and then publish an errata the next month to fix them...

| Wow! |

Yes I know - an update. It happens sometimes.
Anyway, I am currently off work ill, with a whole "projectile vomiting and debilitating headache" scenario going on. It could be the heat, reaction to my hayfever tablets or a bug. Either way, I was off yesterday and will be off today. This is a real bugger cos- I feel pretty awful
- There is loads happening at work
- I'm missing out on overtime
I caught up with a load of admin last week and realised that I hadn't claimed overtime or expenses since February of this year - so I worked it all out and claimed it. I should have enough coming in to sort out my overdraft and pay for the family holiday later on :)
Speaking of family holidays, I need to get the kids passports sorted out *and* book somewhere to stay. If you know of somewhere providing 3* AI with free kids spaces, free kids club and is available during August, on mainland Spain or the Balearics, then let me know.
There have been a couple of changes here as well. Another link added at the top - and clicking on poo-face.com and striatum.org/net actually takes you somewhere else!
I have plans. Striatum.org has a couple of options- online store selling various crap
- massive link database thingy (akin to Digg or Furl or whatever
Poo-face.com is going to become a multi-user blog for me and anyone else who wants to use it. Forget commenting on something I write - write your own damn entry... It will be based on Xoops and a module my dear friend Andy is writing for it. It shall be cool - but will probably look awful. Essentially, it shall be technology related, so anyone here who would like to contribute to a tech based collaborative blog - let me know. I might even put ads on it to generate some money...
In other news - Rhiannon has taken up horse-riding, she had her 3rd lesson on Sunday. I need to find something for Chandler to do - although, bizarrely, he quite fancies doing horse riding as well. But I think he is a little small (he is 4 and is pretty slight for his age) but others think he is about the right age to start...
I am also going through a little re-design work here. I am looking to change the logo and add some white space between the columns and adding another one on the right even (with various content). Each change iteration is being trialled at home - but I'm not happy with anything yet...

How to backup, edit and then restore a mySQL database:
mysqldump -user [userid] -password=[password] database_name > sql.dump
edit the file using a text editor (*not* notepad)
mysql -u[userid] -p database_name < sql.dump
(it will prompt for the password)
Ta-da!
I really am quite cool :)

| Bastard Cunt Fucktards!!! |
|
Some twat has just smashed my passenger window and stolen my Arkon powered PDA mount, along with a PalmOne E2 USB charger cable and an Archos AV300 USB charger cable.
I have a smashed window that needs replacing (waiting for Autoglass to call me back about it) and now need to purchase another mount and cables...
Its not worth claiming on my insurance for the 40 or so it would cost to replace the stolen items, as that would lose me my 11 years of NCB.
However, the retarded fuck managed to run off without the suction mount that goes on the windscreen - so its pretty fucking useless to them. Plus, they didn't open the glovebox and therefore missed my Archos AV320 that was sat there.
In the famous words of Nelson Munce: Ha-ha!
Fucktard!

| The pictures are up! |
|
Hello.
The holiday photos are up here. They are all taken from the disposable cameras we took with us, due to my failure to take our digital camera. I took the batteries, the SD cards but not the camera...
In my defence, no-one noticed that it wasnt in the list I posted a couple of days before I left, so I hold you lot responsible. So there!
We had a great time. Very relaxing and it was almost disappointing to come home. Shell would have been happy to stay there, if it wasn't for her cats and not being able to watch The Bill.
It was very hot while we were there. On the Saturday after we arrived, it was 31 degrees and rose steadily throughout the week until it was in the 40s with virtually no wind. Shell has tanned beautifully whereas I did my normal lobster impression throughout the week.
We spent loads of money on presents (osidian statues and papyrus pictures) but had a wonderful time. I will write a more detailed review of the holiday later on. The only bad points of the holiday (for me):- Sun stroke on Tuesday evening, after a day on the boat
- Shitting through the eye of a needle since the Wednesday. I'm still ill, even now and have had to have stool samples, etc taken to the hospital!
- Almost losing Shell to the Red Sea (I'll explain about that later)
Please leave comments on the pictures, especially appreciative ones about Shells boobs!

I know. Just like London buses...
Some links and news I found and wanted to share:
Ever wanted to use RDP under WinXP with multiple (erm, 3) concurrent logins? If so, check here, here and here
Best Raid Information *EVER*
Take the 8-Bit Gamer Test
And this one
Have you ever been in the market for a chair/tank combo? If so, checkout TankChair
In slightly sadder news, one of my favourite authors (Robert Jordan) who writes the truly awesome "Wheel of Time" series is ill. See here for details. I sincerely hope for his and his family's sake that his treatment is successful and that he can recover from this. Sod the rest of the books in the series...

|
So, THE HOLIDAY is almost upon us. There have been bombings, but we are not concerned... I can go to London and get bombed. ETA have been bombing Spain for the past 25 years and people still go there. And I am not being prevented from having my relaxing holiday!
Anyway, whats been going on?
Well - got my new SME Server up and running on the Compaq SFF box. I installed the latest release - 7.0rc1 and its pretty damn slick, with lots of the user contributed add-ons as part of the package. Also, installed Dans Guardian on it and pointed Rhiannons PC at it to protect her web surfing. Just need to stick it in the rack and remove the old PC.
I installed SmoothWall on the other box and restored the backup file from my existing box - and although it seems to be working, I need to get that into the rack as well and running as the live box.
Elsewhere, I have been listening to the few Terry Pratchett Discworld books that I dont own. Yes - listening. Due to the great medium of audiobooks, I can get through a book in a couple of days while driving (Palm Tungsten, MP3 files and a cassette adapter), which is pretty cool.
For the holiday, I am taking the following "technology" items to maintain my sanity:- Egypt plug converter
- Mains charger with USB port
- USB charger for phone
- USB charger for Palm Tungsten
- 1Gb SD card installed in the Palm with various games and stuff
- 1GB SD Card with several albums on (in MP3 format)
- 128mb SD Card with about 100 eBooks for the Palm
- Gameboy Advance
- SuperCard SD for GBA
- 256Mb SD card with GBA, NES and SMS games including the Elite remake for the GBA
- Several batteries
Plus a couple of proper books including "Yes Man" by Danny Wallace, "Blood Of Angels" by Michael Marshall (the third in the "Straw Men" series), " The High Lord: The Black Magician Trilogy Book Three" by
Trudi Canavan and another book I cant remember. If that doesnt keep me occupied during the lengthy times of sunbathing and wondering what to do with myself with Shell is asleep, I don't know what will.
Especially with the lack of internet access - it's going to be like going "cold turkey". Although I am looking forward to that aspect. When I get back, the internet will be new again :)
There will of course be pictures galore uploaded to the gallery when I return.
In other news, Shell and I are confirmed Nintendo FanBoys. We currently have available to play:- Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)
- Nintendo 64
- Nintendo Gamecube
- Sega Dreamcast
- Playstation 2 (4 of them, in need of repair)
- Commodore Amiga CD32 (currently in my office)
As I also have an original B&W Gameboy (the large one) and a GBA, I think we are missing a couple of GameBoy variants and a DS until we have a complete collection of the Nintendo lineup...
Next on the list might be the Sega range, as Shell is a huge Sonic fan...
