Berlin

I'm gonna update this throughout the evening as I dont have the time to do it all at once right now, so if you are reading it and it seems incomplete - come back later :)

Bank Holiday Monday, Jam and I flew to Berlin from Bristol. An uneventful flight (although the journey there was quite exciting as we got stuck in traffic at the North Somerset Show and Pliers - one of Jams sisters - boyfriend got stressed and panicky but got us there with 5 mins to spare)...

We got to Berlin, found the train station, got the train, changed trains and found ourselves at the correct station ready to look for the hostel. I suddenly got worried cos I hadn't brought directions from the station to the hostel but Jam looked over my shoulder and said "Its there babe" and indeed it was - the building right behind me. Generator Berlin Hostel is the largest in the city - with 900 rooms, so as you can imagine, it was pretty fucking massive! So we booked in and then went out for our first German meal - at Burger King...

Tuesday
We got up late and spent the day wandering around the area near Alexanderplatz. Mitte I think the district is called. Found a place I would love to live in and bought a Simpsons wind up music box from a little Jewish toy shop. Also found an Ampelmann shop and bought presents from there. We walked around loads and by the end of the evening, my feet were killing me.

Wednesday
We got up early and headed back to Alexanderplatz and met up with the Alternative Berlin tour. And man - was it alternative! We saw some amazing sites around East Berlin (not much in the West as there isnt much to see) and did some slightly dubious activities. One of the weirdest was walking through a gap in the wall and finding myself at a Beach Bar - complete with sand, volley ball, etc going on. And then looking around and seeing office blocks and factories all around you. Brilliant! We left the tour before they went onto their "Not Pub Crawl" and headed back to the hostel.
