Thursday, ***** Thursday! Oh, and MySpace...

I think there has been a Black Wednesday, a Bloody Sunday but not anything on a Thursday. Let me know if you have evidence to the contrary...

Nothing has happened this week. Apart from Tuesday when I woke up late so worked from home.

Tonight I am off to Acoustic Night at Back Bar. Have to see Ryan so I can get a CD from him with his track "Theres A Scene" on. That way I can listen to it in its entirety and not just the MySpace version on my iPod.

Speaking of MySpace, I now have an cool mix of "friends". Several people I know from Back Bar, some people with similar music tasts to me plus Magnum, Thunder (who have a new album coming out on October 30th - which I have pre-ordered), Bob Catley, Robert Plant, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman and Robert (Fucking Hell) Plant! Don't ask!

I'm not fully taken on the whole gamut of social networking sites. Saying that, I have been a member of Linked In for a couple of years - but that is more professional/career networking. This whole thing of finding someone interesting and asking them to be your "friend" seems a bit odd. I understand the idea of getting people with similar interests together - that seems fine. I have used/still use Egroups/YahooGroups for communicating with similar minded people. But thats all email based and not "interactive".

Its fun though - getting a friend request, browsing their profile, listening to their music selection (which is the main reason I am there) and finding their interesting "friends" to be "friends" with, and then... ad infinitum.

It can get quite addictive and time consuming. People must spend days going around, adding friends, leaving comments, etc, etc.

And the aim? I have no fucking clue!

My aim? To introduce myself back into grass roots guitar rock again and rediscover past talent. For instance, last night, looking through a list of one of my new "friends" list of "friends" I came across Tony MacAlpines page. Until that moment, I had forgotten he even existed. Next thing I know, I've grabbed a load of his tunes and have immersed myself back into his music that I had forgotten about for the past 15 years or so...

Best thing so far? Finding Jason Beckers site and seeing that he is still alive, still has a sense of humour and is still making music. Jason was a member of Cacophony (with Marty Friedman) and also played lead for David Lee Roth (A Little Ain't Enough album) - replacing Steve Vai (I think I have every album he has been involved in). Jason was diagnised with Lou Gehrig's Disease in 1989 and was given 5 years to live! He cannot move and cannot speak, yet he hasn't given up on his life. Makes you think no matter how shitty your life may be, there are people out there who manage every day under far worse circumstances...

Oh but the MySpace interface is shittier than a shitty thing that just been shat on. I hate it. With a passion!
