This afternoon is Rhiannons Sports Day at her school, so Shell and I are going along to shout things and embarass her. Which got me to thinking whether my parents ever came to my Sports Days when I was at school - and I quite honestly dont think they did.
My Dad was working as a delivery driver and would have found it tricky to arrange his time as easily as I can. My Mum - she was at home and didn't work. She made wedding cakes as a living. But I don't remember her coming to them though, even though it wouldn't have been too much out of her day, once a year. Hopefully my kids will always be able to look back and think "Dad was there and he did this...", in the way that I can't.
I am also not taking my camera (but will take the cemeraphone) as I am unsure if I am allowed to photograph my own daughter (and possibly other innocent children bystanders) at her Sports Day. With the current climate in which we live, photographing my own daughter with her friends has the capability to cause a public outcry. Which is a pity, as I would love to have a picture of her bursting through the finishing tape, with her arms aloft and head thrown back. So if she does manage that, I will be very disappointed as I wouldnt been able to catch it on camera.
We also received a copy of her school report - and frankly she has done brilliantly. She has excelled in her Reading, Science, Maths and English, but needs work with her writing. Which reminds me (in a roundabout way) that I need to call her Riding School and book a lesson for Sunday....
