Job Update

I didnt get that job, Johnny P got it instead (which is good as he is ace and stands in for the job when my boss is away anyway). Pity I didnt get it - although my manager told I did a "blinding" interview, plus it looks like other stuff will be coming my way in the near future anyway.

Was also approached today about doing some ad-hoc network consultancy in my spare time. Which is nice.

I also have overtime claims to submit from the beginning of the year - adding up to a weeks pay. Which wont be paid until April. Which is also nice.

Its just a nice day I suppose.

Loneliness

Shell stayed at her grans last night, as she was working for them yesterday and today. Her grandparents run a model railway business, amongst other things, and they needed some help doing some packaging, etc.
So I slept alone last night. It felt all wrong and I didnt like it.
I missed her terribly - walking in the house and seeing her shoes/boots by the front door, but she wasnt home.
Then walking into the bedroom and smelling her smell - but she wasnt there.
And waking up this morning and not having to untangle our limbs...

She's back today though - yay!

Dropped off Ians new case and 80gb drive yesterday as well. And got his old PSU (with the noisy fan) into the bargain. Although he hasnt got the thing up and running yet. Gonna print off the manual for him so he can check it all out later.

Finally got my USB-IRDA dongle working with my phone. WinXP detected it wrongly, so I had to manually install the drivers and then it was fine. The Nokia PC Suite is quite cool and I have added some new graphics to it. Tones, wallpapers and games next :)

Still havent had any contact with the kids - its quite disgusting really. I asked Bimbo to get Rhiannon to call me on Saturday. I'll call her at 4pm today and see if her and Chandler want to come round at the weekend on Saturday or Sunday. If Bimbo blocks - things might start getting a bit serious. Hi Jon :)

These guys are quite serious. Seriously mad.

You want bug free software? You want this.

The Chernobyl nuclear reactor incident was a disaster in every sense. Go here to see a photo diary of someones visit back to the area, the dangers, the ghost towns, etc. Chilling.

What the fuck!

As a child and now an adult, I have always been constantly amazed by confectionery companies changing the names of their products. Opal Fruits became Starburst (and became crap at the same time). But the worst one - Marathon becoming Snickers!

So what am I pointed at today? This and this!. Twats!

I didnt see the kids over weekend, or indeed speak to them. I spoke to Chandler on Friday and Bimbo promised she would get Rhiannon to call on Saturday, but that didn't happen. I'll call them this afternoon I think and see if they want to come round at the weekend. I did however, (with Shells help) buy her some new clothes for her 5th birthday on April 1st.

I was also quite ill on Sunday morning due to mixing my drinks on Saturday night. Jack Daniels, Brandy and Vodka do not go well together. I spent an hour talking to god on the great white telephone when I got home. I wasnt that drunk, but felt atrocious.

So I was a bit tender most of the day yesterday and got extremely hacked off when we went to Safeway and one of my tyres decided to die while in the car park. Walking back to the car I noticed that my n/s rear tyre was completely flat, not just low but flat. We limped into the petrol station and the airline managed to inflate it - but as soon as the airline was removed it deflated again. We crawled home and I put the space saver wheel on. That'll do me until the Cavalier papers come through...

A couple of games for today. This one is, erm, well, erm, crazyish. The author definately needs some psychiatric help...
Pipe Down is excellent fun though. Enjoy!

Update!

Blimey. A couple of days without an update, how remiss of me.

Anyway, brief update. I have a job interview today at 11am. As I mentioned before, my team leader is leaving at the end of the month and I have applied for his job. We think it is a foregone conclusion who is going to get the job, but I would kick myself if I could have got it, so I have gone for it. So have several others in the team. Hi Lockers :)

Erm. What else? Some parcels arrived, picking up another TV on Sunday courtesy of Andy, erm and thats about it. I lost at snooker last night to Ben, which was dissapointing considering last weeks result.

Havent seen or spoken to the kids this week (although I left a message for Rhiannon on Wednesday). I'll call again later this afternoon and hopefully see them over the weekend.

Oooh!

Yesterday my

Crucial 128mb "Gizmo" USB Memory Stick turned up. Its ace and quite fast. Been copying stuff off my laptop onto it all morning and will be installing some stuff to it as well, so I can run some network apps on my laptop.

Regarding yesterdays link to a huge sandwich, I ahve remembered that I have a bread maker. Ic ould do the same (but on a slightly reduced scale). If I could just find the gluten free recipe...

I also managed to secure a new machine yesterday (yes - another one). This will be replacing my main machine (and utilising some pieces from it). My friend Andy is upgrading his main gaming PC, so has offered me:

Intel 845PEBT2 Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz (533FSB) CPU
2x TwinMOS 512mb DDR333 RAM
40Gb IDE hdd

for a very reasonable price. When matched up with my DVDROM, DVD-RW, ATI Radeon 9600XT gfx card and my Hercules Game Theatre XP sound card - this will be quite a formidable bit of kit. The mobo can support upto a 3.06Ghz (533FSB) processor as well...

A new case and stuff will be required. I was tempted to get one with all the fancy stuff, lights, side panels, coloured fans, etc - but its too expensive. I have a small budget and I'm not going to go mad, so just basic stuff for the new machine.

Nothingness

Did nothing over the weekend. At all. Well, maybe some stuff, but hardly anything. Didnt go out drinking, etc on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Shell got offered a new job, which is pretty cool. A better hourly rate as well.

We had a big discussion about stuff as well, regarding how difficult she is finding having the stress from Bimbo in her life. I wish I could just click my fingers and make it all go away, but... Things should sort themselves out, I just hope she can keep it together that long.

Shell came to a computer fair with me on Sunday morning as well - first time *any* of my partners have come along to one. Admittedly, she didnt exactly enjoy herself, but she made the effort. Which was good. And she came into work last night when I had to come in to fix our dial-in solution following a power down. How ace is that!

Finished off the Celeron 600 setup. At the fair, I bought a 52x CDRW, 32x CD and an fdd for 31 - which is stupidly cheap. For some reason though, the machine refused to boot from my Windows XP CD, but was fine using my Win98 one. Which is annoying, as I wanted XP on there really. I'll get that sorted oiut hough.

The K6/2-400 machine just needs a modem now and then that can go round to Rhiannons, as that is all setup and working happily with all the updates on it, etc. That'll give me a little more space that I can then fill with yet more machines. Speaking of which:-

You know that Epox dual-P3 motherboard? Well that turned up on Saturday and then yesterday I won an auction for another PIII-733/256/133/1.7V CPU - matching my existing one. So I now have 2 matched chips to put into that motherboards. What I dont have is a case, PSU, DVD/CDROM and gfx card to go into it. But I'm working on that already :)

Now thats a sandwich.

Yeehaw!

Me. Did. Good. Last. Night.

Turned up at Shells with Chinese for tea
Won snooker 3-0
Got all the drivers on the K6/2-400 PC (its currently doing all the Windows Update stuff)
Got one of the motherboard/CPU combos working

Yep. I grabbed the Celeron 600 and checked it out. I was expecting it to be a 100Mhz chip, but it is in fact a 66Mhz chip (x9). So I plugged it into the Soyo SY-7VCM motherboard (after removing the PIII/733), attached the cooler, plugged in my old Kyro II, whacked 256mb of PC133 into it and *WHAM* it booted up. I'll get it all sorted out, cased, etc over the weekend and see what happens.

I also found a great piece of software called HWiNFO. I installed this on the K6/2-400 last night to find out what network and sound cards it had and it did. Without the drivers loaded or anything. Dead handy. I'll be using that again for some of the more esoteric bits of kit I have lying around :)

Woohoo!

Just sorted a working motherboard. An Epox EP-D3VA. Its actually a dual-CPU box (a bit like my current server), but it will support all the CPUs I have. Once I have tested them all - it will be built with the PIII - as that is dualable, whereas the Celerons arent. Then its just a matter of getting mobos/cases, etc for them and away we go!

Progress at last (I hope)!

I also found and sent off my registration docs for the car. So when that comes back (next week), I'll be swapping the insurance over, getting tax and then dumping the Volvo (after removing the alloys from it). Gonna put them in the garage and either flog them or put decent/new tyres on them and put them on the Cav.
